National Cancer Survivors Day

The 6th of June marks National Cancer Survivors Day.

This day is a celebration of all cancer survivors and their caregivers.

There are currently estimated more than 16.9 million cancer survivors in the US only. In 2018, there were approximately 43.8 million cancer survivors diagnosed within the previous 5 years worldwide.

Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, but the number of cancer survivors is growing with raised awareness and new treatment options being developed.

Let’s help raise our awareness together – see below how to potentially reduce the risk of cancer:

•    avoid smoking tobacco
•    maintain healthy body weight
•    eat healthy foods, including fruit and vegetables
•    stay physically active
•    avoid alcohol
•    get vaccinated against HPV and hepatitis B, if you belong to a group for which vaccination is recommended
•    avoid UV radiation (which mainly results from sun exposure)
•    reduce (as much as possible) your exposure to ionizing radiation (as means of occupational or medical diagnostics)
•    reduce exposure to outdoor and indoor air pollution, including radon (a radioactive gas produced by the natural decay of uranium. Exposure to radon can occur in homes and buildings)
